Market to Market – Wizard of Oz Theme!!

One of my favorite events to set up for the bakery is Market to Market. I love bikes and costumes so I can’t really go wrong with this event. Last Saturday was the fall ride with a Wizard of Oz theme. There were some really great costumes this time! Always impressed with the creativity of Columbus folks. I set up on the newly reopened Weber Road exit of the Olentangy Bike Trail to check off passports for the ride, hand out spoke cards and free cookie coupons. Car Free Day Columbus!!!

Car Free Day is an international event that was held on September 21, 2012 in Columbus this year. Car Free Day seeks to challenge residents of central Ohio to consider and experience the environmental and money saving benefits of a variety of travel options, including transit, bicycling, walking and all alternative modes of transportation to meet daily travel needs.

When we heard about this event we knew that we wanted to participate. Anything to raise awareness about alternative modes of transit that lessens our environmental impart on the earth is right up our alley. When I visited San Francisco last year I saw several parklets there. Parklets are small urban parks that are built from transforming underused parallel parking spots into a patio or green space. This not only is more eye pleasing but brings together communities with a lovely space to hang out.

I asked Cate if she wanted to help with the project of creating our own parklet for the day. She has a great eye for design and is super creative. She came up with the layout and color designs and we went with it. It was super fun and we have even bigger plans for next year.

Happy Birthday Pattycake!!!

On September 14 we had a little party at the bakery to celebrate 9 wonderful years!!! Our friends at Inner Circle Street Food set up and we had complimentary cupcakes for customers. It was a lot of fun and we want to thank you all for supporting us over the years. We wouldn’t be here without you!

Inner Circle Street Food!!!

We love food carts at pattycake, especially ones that specialize in veg food! When we talked to Rich from Inner Circle Street Food about the possibility of him setting up outside the bakery we were thrilled when he was excited about it! Inner Circle is a chef driven cart with a focus on local ingredients and from scratch made vegan sausages. Right up our alley! We are hoping to have him set up at least once a month on a Saturday. 2 wheels and heels

When our friend Jess Mathews, the organizer of Columbus’s 2 Wheels and Heels, talked to us about the possibility of being part of July’s monthly ride we were really excited! We are all about any event that empowers more women to feel comfortable to get out there and ride. We started at Brothers Drake with 30 ladies and headed to the bakery for some very special sweet treats. We made high heel and wheel cut outs to give to all the participants. It was a blast and we were so pumped to be part of the ride. After that we biked through Clintonville and ended the ride back at Brothers Drake. Market to Market – Mustaches and Monocles

Last Saturday was Market to Market – Mustaches and Monocles! This is one of my favorite events to set up for. The participants either start at The Hills Market or The North Market and bike to the opposite using mostly the olentangy bike path with fun stops along the way with giveaways and free stuff.This year we were set up next to our friends at Yay! Bikes and on the other side Yelp. We gave out coupons for a free cookie at the bakery, spoke cards, and pattycake buttons. I was delighted to see our first bike delivery person for the bakery taking part in the race. That’s Teddy on the far right! He also helped build our bike rack that is located in front of the bakery with help from others at the third hand bike co-op. It is made entirely of up-cycled bike parts. Check it out next time you stop by!

Women Have Options Bowl-a-Thon 2012

Last Sunday was the Women Have Options Bowl-a-Thon and pattycake was a sponsor again this year! Last year the Columbus Bowl-a-Thon raised over 13,000 and this year it raised over 25,ooo for women’s reproductive care here in Ohio!  There were awesome prizes from some of our favorite local businesses given away to the top fundraisers!

food cart love!

We love all the amazing food carts and trucks that have popped up this past year in Columbus! There are some really unique food concepts plus amazing eats! We are bringing two of our favorites to the bakery!

Rad Dog will be here for their 1st vending day of Spring on April 14 from 11 am to 2 pm. He will be serving up his famous vegan dogs and sandwiches including the amazing Luna burger served on a Brezel bun! Yum and yay local! This will also be a Rad Dog + Sticky Bun Challenge Day. If you are able to eat any Rad Dog sandwich and follow that up with a huge pattycake sticky bun we will take your picture for the Rad Dog + Sticky Bun Challenge Wall of Fame located inside pattycake. Lucky Ladle will be here on April 28 from 11 am to 2 pm. She uses mostly local ingredients to make her homemade soups and turnovers. If you haven’t had a chance to sample from this cart you are in for a real treat! RSVP on Facebook here!

Market to Market…..Pirates vs. Zombies!

 Market to Market was on Oct. 8th with a Pirates vs. Zombies theme. This is one of my favorite events to work for the bakery! In case you haven’t heard of Market to Market, it is a bicycle event that starts with an amazing breakfast at your choice of either The Hills Market or The North Market. After breakfast you head out on the bike path to collect stamps on your passport from local businesses on your way to the other market. We are always set up on the Olentangy Bike Trail Weber Rd. exit for this event handing out spoke cards and free cookie coupons to use at the bakery. After you complete the ride and make it to the other market Jeni’s Ice Cream is there waiting for you for a free scoop of ice cream. Sound like a great event? It is! This year we biked all of our gear down to the bike path in our wholesale delivery bike cart.

Michael does all of our wholesale deliveries inside 270 with this cart! Keep you eye out for the next announched date of Market to Market. Here are a couple pictures of participates!

2011 SWACO Emerald Awards!!!

Yesterday Jennie and I attended the 2011 SWACO Emerald Awards where Pattycake was nominated and won in the category for Small Business, yay! The Emerald Awards are central Ohio’s green awards that reward those practicing sustainability and waste reduction in our community.
